Position Description
The Group Strategy, Transformation and Risk function within the Strategy, Innovation and Transformation (SIT) business line is responsible for reviewing and assessing the emergent business environment, evolving customer needs, identifying potential growth opportunities, and determining ESB’s overall Group Strategy, as well as for managing enterprise risk and ensuring major risks (and their controls) are identified, monitored and escalated appropriately.
ESB’s Making a Difference - ESB Strategy for a Brighter Future - Net Zero by 2040 (“Net Zero 2040”) Strategy sets out seven Strategic Objectives that describe how we will achieve our Purpose of delivering a brighter future; creating & connecting sustainable, reliable, affordable energy; and supporting the customers & communities we serve to achieve net zero while acting consistently with our values.
With the launch of our Net Zero 2040 Strategy, a portfolio of cross-company Strategic Initiatives (SIs) have been defined. These SIs outline the subset of high priority actions, initiatives and projects that ESB will undertake to help support and transform the organisation towards delivery of our Strategy. and for which the ESB Executive Committee (EXCO) hold themselves collectively accountable, as well as the key strategic issues and decisions to be assessed. Progress in delivering our Strategy is also assessed through a set of Strategic Performance Indictors (SPIs) which are reviewed regularly by the EXCO and Board and which inform strategic decision-making.
The Strategic PMO (SPMO) within Group Strategy, Transformation and Risk works closely with ESB’s Executive Committee to play a central role in monitoring and supporting delivery and implementation of these SIs and SPIs, and our Net Zero 2040 Strategy, by:
* Providing a standardised approach to portfolio, programme and project management at a strategic level
* Ensuring a disciplined approach and toolset for initiating, planning, implementing / controlling, and embedding SIs
* Supporting and advising on appropriate governance to ensure SIs attain and maintain momentum
* Supporting and advising SI owners, and leading the delivery of a number of the SIs, as required
* Monitoring and reporting on the progress of all SIs to EDT on an ongoing basis, establishing and reporting on SPIs to facilitate clear communication of progress, health, and need for action
* Ensuring alignment to our strategy and understanding interdependencies between SIs
The SPMO also supports additional strategic cross-company projects and initiatives as needed by the EXCO.
Key Responsibilities
The Group Strategic Initiatives / Portfolio Manager will play a leading role within the SPMO at the heart of co-ordination and implementation of the SIs in support of delivery of our Net Zero 2040 Strategy. Responsibilities include:
* Leading the delivery of specific Strategic Initiatives (SIs) through defined methodology and standards, including management and reporting of Risks, Issues, Milestones, Dependencies, Budget
* Keeping abreast of energy industry trends, relevant policy development and technological advancements and the potential opportunities and / or challenges they may present to support insight driven strategic decision making. Structuring and conducting strategic analyses to inform EXCO decision-making when required.
* Supporting effective delivery of the wider portfolio of SIs by ensuring a disciplined approach and quality standard is brought throughout, and that relevant standards and processes are adopted and appropriate governance structures are in place - providing support and advice to individual SI owners and Project Managers as appropriate
* Working with the SPMO Manager and the wider Group Strategy, Transformation and Risk team to define, refine and maintain the overall portfolio of SIs on an ongoing basis
* Helping identify interdependencies and efficiencies across the portfolio of SIs
* Ensuring accurate and efficient reporting on individual SIs and the wider portfolio, as required, to various stakeholders, including the Executive Director Team
* Developing and evolving SPMO standards, procedures, tools and templates as appropriate
Essential
Experience and Qualifications
* A strategic thinker and problem solver with the ability to manage multiple activities and initiatives in the context of the “bigger picture”
* 7+ years’ project / portfolio management experience, with a track record of delivering projects within a controlled PMO environment
* A recognised and relevant professional or third level qualification, or equivalent work experience is required
* Familiarity with energy markets, policies, and industry players and / or demonstrated interest in the energy industry
* Self-motivated with excellent planning and time management skills and strong attention to detail
* Strong analytical skills with ability to use data driven insight and / or industry analysis to support strategic decision making
* Excellent communication, facilitation and presentation (incl. PowerPoint content creation) skills
* Proven people and stakeholder management skills, including ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and to engage positively with senior stakeholders
Desirable
* Project Management accreditation
* Experience of Strategy Management
* Strong business and commercial acumen
Location
This position will be based in Fitzwilliam 27 Dublin in line with ESBs Smart Working arrangements. From time-to-time occasional travel may be required to other ESB locations.
ESB is committed to smart working – combining digital tools with a culture of trust and empowerment to enable flexible ways of working. The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least one anchor day per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

Salary
€66,500 - €78,500 depending on experience
